Img_0746 Who said food in Helsinki was not good? There are many good restaurants. On the rainy day in Tokyo, decided to make a list of good restaurants in Helsinki for friends who are/will be visiting Helsinki.

Serata www.serata.net
My most favorite restaurant in Helsinki at the moment. Superb food!

Tony’s Del http://www.tonysdeli.fi/fi/Tony_s_Deli/Yhteystiedot/
This is also great Italian restaurant. Be careful, you might eat too much there.

Kynsilaukka Garlic Restaurant www.kynsilaukka.com/
The famous garlic restaurant. I’ve never tried garlic beer though.

Restaurant Lehtovaara http://www.ravintolaopas.net/lehtovaara
I love their steak!

Fazer www.fazer.fi/
The famous chocolatier. One of my favorite cafes in Helsinki. I always can’t decided what to eat. All the sweets look so good : )

Saaga http://www.asrestaurants.com/saaga/index.asp
Lappish restaurant. Reindeer stake was yummy!

Lappi Restaurant www.lappires.com/
The most famous Lappi restaurant in Helsinki, I think. Good food & atmosphere. They have even Japanese menu.

Summer Restaurant Saari http://www.asrestaurants.com/saari/index.asp
You need to take a boat to get to the island where the restaurant is located though it takes only a few minutes! An excellent place in summer with the good view. It’s closed in winter. Smoked fish is lovely. "saari" is "island" in Finnish.

Farouge http://www.farouge.fi/
Good Lebanese restaurant. Be careful not to order too much. I ate too much last time and had tough time after wards!

Villa Thai, Restaurant www.villathai.com/
Good atmosphere and Thai food.

Ravintola Lasipalasti http://www.ravintola.lasipalatsi.fi/
You can have reindeer stew even if you’re with someone who doesn’t want to eat Lappish food on the day. Variety of Western food.

  1. Totally agree about Serata – superb place.
One more item in your list -Mecca (www.mecca.fi). Great atmosphere, excellent food (very fresh) and my favourite wines.
Every time meet some finnish celebrities there. Prices are not extremely high, however – comparable to Serata.
BTW, the interior is kinda Eastern style (I’d say Japanese), see it some day, I wanna know what you think about it :).

  2. Thanks Andrea for your comment! I have to try Mecca next time. It’s in June : )

    Hi,
    Just returned from Helsinki.
I could not go any of the recommended restaurants after all, Yumi-san 🙁
By the way, local team mates took us to a Mexican restaurant run by one of Leninglad Cowboys!! It was pretty good, actually.

    Close to Espranadi.
Also, I had Pulla at Bulevardin Kahvisalonki and they had great Cinammon Rolls! I tried one at Cafe Kafka but I did not like theirs…:(

  4. Yes, Cantina West is quite popular. I’ve been there several time. Bulevardi cafe is also nice 🙂 Looking forward to seeing and talking with you about Helsinki!

  5. go try La Place if you come to helsinki a little joy. unioninkatu 18 Behind palace hotel and next to the market place

  6. Thanks, Joe, for the recommendation!
