Flew back to Helsinki from Paris yesterday. Again, Paris was beautiful and fun, indeed. Good bread and cheese, beautiful architecture, arts, aromatherapy, cool shops… Will write about each of them later with a lot of photos. But now, I just write about the sky I saw from the airplane. It was extraordinary beautiful and made me think the heaven could be something like this. The clouds were making a beautiful scene there, some part was like water fall. Shame I don’t have picture to show you!

昨日パリからヘルシンキに戻った。パリはまたしても素敵だった。おいしいパンとチーズ、建築や美術も素晴らしいものばかり。アロマセラピーグッズもたくさんあってどこででも手に入る。しゃれた店もたくさん。これからいろいろ書く予定ではあるけれど　とりあえず　今日は昨日の飛行機から見た美しい空の景色のことを・・・昨日の空の上は今まで見たことないくらいきれいだった。雲がたくさんあって　天国ってこんなんだろーな　と思った。とにかく雲がものすごく美しい光景を作り出していた。滝みたいなところもあったりして。写真を撮れなかったのが残念。

The shoulder and arm muscles are sore. Yoga practice at Guruji Europe Tour 2006 has been harder than my usual practice. It’s a New Moon holiday today and I hope I feel less tired tomorrow morning when I go to practice.

肩と腕が筋肉痛。グルジ　ヨーロッパツアー２００６でのヨガの練習はいつも自分でやっているのよりハードだ。今日は新月でお休み。ゆっくり休んで疲れをとって　明日はちょっと復活して練習したい。

I’ve been to Helsinki so many times. But there had been a place where I wanted to go but hadn’t been. Last Saturday, I could go to the place, the Winter Garden.  Tried to find the reason why it’s "Winter" garden but quick search couldn’t find it. It’s opne all year long.

Anyways, it was a sunny and warm day. It’s unusual warmth in Helsinki at the end of August. And no rain for three months though it rained last week. The garden was lovely indeed. The flowersand classical music (I guess it’s for flowers) in the green house were peaceful. I fell in love with the garden. I’ll come here more often from now on and spend time just sitting on a bench looking at flowers and plants. It was also a day of Helsinki City marathon. More then 6,000 people participated it and I could see them from the garden.

ヘルシンキには何回も来ていて、もうほとんど目新しいものはないけれど、実はずっと行きたいと思っていていってないところがあった。そして先週の土曜日ついにウィンターガーデンを訪れた。ウィンターガーデンって言っても１年中やっている。なんでウィンターガーデンなんだろうか…ってかなり疑問で手早くぐぐってみたけれど　すぐに答えは見つからなかった。（もっと時間をかけて調べればいいんだけど・・・）

土曜日は暖かくていい天気。今年の８月のヘルシンキの天気は異例なほど暖かく、なんと３ヶ月もの間雨がふらなかったらしい。そして先週やっと雨に恵まれた。ウィンターガーデンはほんとに美しくて　思わずfell in love with the garden…といったところ。温室の花とそこに流れるクラシック音楽でかなり癒される感じだった。ただ花を見ながら座っているだけでいい感じだった。

同じ日にヘルシンキマラソンが行われた。６０００人が参加したらしい。ちょうどウィンターガーデンの前を走り抜けていったので　こちらも見物できた。

I got up at 4:00am, took the first train from my station to Shibuya, etc… and arrived at Helsinki yesterday.

I went to the Diner’s club airport lounge at Haneda airport first time. I usually don’t have time to go there but this time, I had 15 minutes to spend there. It was quite nice. They had massage chairs for free though I didn’t have time to use it. I had three hours at Kansai International Airport for transit. But I didn’t feel it was long. I had to check in again there and quite many people were queuing to check in. The queue to Finnair counter was shorter than other airlines but it still took some time for me to get there. It’s a summer holiday season in Japan and for some reason Europe seems to be a popular destination this summer. Anyway, the flight was quite comfortable for the luck I got at seat allocation. 

At Helsinki airport, I saw the longest queue I’ve ever seen at the immigration. (of course, compared with JFK, LHR, LAX , it was nothing though!) I’m sure Helsinki attracts more tourist than before. No wonder it’s such a lovely country and for us, Japanese, it’s the closest European destination.

I already met some friends here. It’s always fun to see them. In the evening, I had a chance to pick and eat sweet raspberries and other berries : ) They were much sweeter and more tasty than the ones we can get in Tokyo. Of course, we rarely have a chance to pick them up!

It’s nice to be a cooler place. It was already 30 degrees C at 7:30 am in Osaka when I got to the airport though Tokyo was cooler and rainy when I left home. I’m happy to spend two weeks here.

昨日は朝の４時に起きて　渋谷行きの始発電車に乗って、羽田から関空経由でヘルシンキに着いた。羽田では初めてダイナースクラブのラウンジに行ってみた。いつもは時間がなくて行けないのだけれど今回は少しだけ時間があったので。無料のマッサージチェアもあったりしてなかなかよかった。関空での乗り継ぎは待ち時間が３時間くらいあったのだけれど長いとは感じなかった。関空はすごく混んでいてフィンエアのチェックインカウンターも混んでいた。それでも他のカウンターに比べれば空いていたのだけれど。夏休みシーズンで海外に向かう人でごった返している感じだった。それに最近ヨーロッパはますます人気があるようだ。フライトはちょっとラッキーな席をもらえたのでとっても快適だった。

ヘルシンキ空港の入国審査では見たことないくらいたくさんの人が並んでいた。（もちろんJFK, LHR, LAXに比べればどうってことないんだけど）　でもヘルシンキは旅行先として前よりももっと好まれているようだ。

ヘルシンキに着いて　もう何人かの友達に会った。昨日の夕方にはラズベリーとか黒すぐり　とかを摘んで食べたりした。東京で食べるのより何倍も甘くておいしかった。東京ではベリーを摘むなんてことがほとんどないから　さらに比べものにならないけど。

涼しい（といってもまだ寒くない）場所にいられるのはうれしい。これから２週間、快適な休暇になりそう。昨日大阪に着いたときはなんと朝の７時半で３０度。東京を出たときはもっと涼しくて雨が降ってたのに。

There have been several things I wanted to write here since I wrote last time but I haven’t got time to do it. I’m flying to Helsinki tomorrow again. I decided to spend my holiday there participating in yoga workshop of Pattabhi Jois (if you practice yoga, I think you know him.). I’ll have plenty of time to write there but today, need to go to bed soon. I have to get up at 4:00am tomorrow morning!

ここ数日書きたいことはいくつかあったのだけれど　かなり忙しくしていたので時間がなかった。明日からまたヘルシンキへ。今回は休暇。パタビ・ジョイスのワークショップ（ヨガ）に参加してあとはゆっくりするつもり。書く時間はたっぷりあるはず。明日は4時起き・・・寝なくちゃ・・・

It was full moon yesterday. We don’t practice ashtanga yoga on full moon and new moon days. The typhoon was approaching to Tokyo, and it had been fiercely raining since early morning. I didn’t expect to see the full moon on the typhoon day. But it cleared off in the evening and the moon was shining beautifully when I was on the way to home.

In sharp contract to rainy and cool yesterday, it was very sunny and temperature went up to 34 degrees. When I saw the weather forecast, I was afraid I’d feel very uncomfortable with the hot weather. But it wasn’t that bad.

昨日は満月だった。満月と新月の日、アシュタンガヨガの練習はお休みだ。東京には台風が接近していた朝からひどい雨だった。満月の日だけど　月が見えるとは思えなかった。でも夕方には雨も上がり家に帰る頃には月がきれいに輝いていた。

一変して今日はいい天気。気温も34度まで上がって暑い1日だった。天気予報を見たときは暑くて不快な1日になるんじゃないかと思ったけど意外と心地よい天気だった。

A very hot day, again. The summer sky was beautiful. How long has it been since I saw Mt Fuji last time? It was there today! (In the right picture though it’s very small) Shame I didn’t have my own camera but had to use the old camera we have in the office. A bit disappointing color I got.

またまた暑い1日。でも空がすごくきれいだった。すごく久しぶりに富士山もきれいに見えた。（右側に写真に小さく写ってます。）今日は自分のカメラを持っていなかったので会社の古いカメラで撮影。色がイマイチ・・・

It hadn’t been that hot till yesterday morning. It was nice that I could sleep well without air-conditioner. Even last evening when I was leaving the office, I still felt this summer was not as hot as last two years and pretty comfortable. Last night, however, was quite hot and I woke up to turn on air-conditioner at midnight. Today’s temperature went up to 35 degrees, the second hottest this summer, in Tokyo. I don’t remember the hottest day though.

I went to a friend’s in Yokohama. On the way, I went to Yokohama Sogo to buy puddings. It took some time for me to decided what to buy. As well as all other department stores, Sogo had a lot of "looks-yummy" shops on the basement. But Marlowe’s custard puddings looked the most attractive today. (Custard puddings have been my most favorite since I was a child.) Though I hadn’t known Marlowe, it seemed to be very popular and it is according to a friend. The custard pudding was lovely indeed. And it was very interesting that the glass container of the pudding was a Pyrex cup. If you return the cup to the shop, they give you 200yen back. I did it, of course 😉 The pudding price is a bit expensive if you don’t return the cup. You could use the cup though.

一昨日くらいまでの天気はとても快適。毎日エアコンをつけなくてもよく眠れた。昨日は日中暑くなったけれど会社を出る頃にはまた過ごしやすい夕方って感じだった。でも　夜は蒸し暑くて夜中に目が覚めてエアコンをつけた。今日の最高気温は35度になった。東京では今年2番目の暑さだったらしい。でも　1番暑かったのっていつだっけ？

そんな暑い日だったけど　今日は横浜の友達を訪ねた。お茶請けを買おうと思って横浜そごうのデパ地下に寄った。デパ地下で何かを選ぶのはいつもながら大変。どれもこれもおいしそうなんだから。でも今日一番惹かれたのはマーローのカスタードプリン。（カスタードプリンは子供の頃からの大好物）。マーローを見たのは初めてだったけど人気の店っていう感じだった。後で友達に聞いたところ有名らしい。プリンはとってもおいしかったし　おもしろかったのはプリンの容器。なんとあの電子レンジに入れても大丈夫なパイレックスだった。カップをお店に返せば200円返してもらえるっていうシステムも昔懐かしい感じでおもしろかった。でもカップを返却しないとプリントしてはちょっと高い値段になってしまう・・・もちろんカップは使えるけど。
