My Christmas has been blessed with lots of smiley things. The Christmas weekend started with tasty Thai dinner on Friday evening. A friend of mine took me to a Thai restaurant in Shimokitazawa. The restaurant didn’t have many menu options but their specialty, Thai chicken rice, was great! I had baked chicken rice though the real Thai chicken rice is always with steamed chicken according to the waiter. It was delicious!!! I’d love to go back to the restaurant very soon. Chickken Amrita (Chickken : it’s not a spelling mistake but the name!)is an excellent restaurant. Price is quite good, too. (Picture: lovely wall paper in the restaurant, by Nokia 6680)

素敵なクリスマスを過ごした。いわゆるクリスマスの週末は金曜日の夜食べたおいしいタイ料理からスタート。友達が下北にあるタイレストランに連れて行ってくれた。メニューはそんなにいろいろなくて　カオマンガイというタイのチキンライスを専門にしているお店で　めちゃくちゃおいしかった。お店の人によるとタイのチキンライスといえば鶏を蒸してライスにのせたのが本当らしいけど私は焼いたチキンを選んだ。どちらかというと蒸し鶏より焼いてあるほうが好きなので。とにかく絶品。またすぐにでも行きたいと思ってる。お店の名前は　チッキンアムリタ。値段ももちろん手ごろです。（写真はお店の壁紙。携帯のカメラで撮ったもの。）

Last Friday, we had a year-end party of the office. After the beautiful sunset, we went to Nepali restaurant, Khumbila in Ebisu.

"Namaste", waiters and waitresses welcomed us with the word I know well from yoga. I couldn’t help smiling. Food was very good and I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. We sat on the floor and ate and drink. The room was not big enough and we had to be squeezed. But it worked well to make friendly mood! All-You-Can-Drink menu was excellent. It includes champaign, lassi, mango lassi and cold chai in addition to ordinary stuff. The restaurant has six floors (only on the 5th floor, you can sit on the floor.) and all the rooms are decorated nicely! I tried to take pictures of the rooms but couldn’t take good ones. That’s why the picture is smaller than usual 😉 

先週の金曜日は会社の忘年会。印象的な夕陽が沈んだ後　恵比寿にあるネパールレストラン　クンビラ　に向かった。

“ナマステ”、ヨガでおなじみの言葉に迎えられて何だかうれしかった。食事はおいしかったし雰囲気も最高だった。私たちが食事をした座敷風の部屋は人数のわりには狭くてぎゅうぎゅうづめ状態だったけれどかえってそれが親近感を増した幹事。飲み放題のメニューも普通の飲み放題にありそうなドリンクに加えてシャンパン、ラッシー、マンゴーラッシー、冷たいチャイもあってかなりイケてた。クンビラ　はなんと6階建て。（5階の部屋だけが座敷）　どの部屋もネパール風にきれいな飾りつけがしてある。写真を撮ろうと思ったけれどあまりうまく撮れなかったのでちょっと小さめに載せてみた。

When I went to San Francisco a month ago, I happened to go to a photo gallery at Pier 39 (Fisherman’s Wharf). Without any expectation, I stepped into the gallery… I caught my breath in my throat. A picture of a mountain near the entrance was absolutely beautiful. I thought the picture was exactly what I wanted to take. I also saw the sign saying "No Filters, No Fakery, No Dark Room Trickery. What you see here is what I saw there." And I thought , yes, that’s what I want to do. All other pictures were great, too. I was moved and almost crying at Rodney Lough Jr. Wilderness Collections Gallery. I was so glad to encounter the pictures.

1ヶ月前にサンフランシスコのフィッシャーマンズワーフでたまたま写真のギャラリーに入ってみた。何の期待もしていなかったのだけれど　入ってすぐ息を呑んだ。入口の近くにあった山の写真の美しさに圧倒された。その写真は私がずっと撮りたいと思っていたような作品だった。そして写真の説明には "フィルターも、ごまかしも、暗室でのトリックも使っていません。あなたが今ここで見ているものは私がそこで見たものです。"と書かれていた。まさに私がやりたいこと。他の写真もすべて素晴らしかった。ロドニー　ラフ　ジュニアという写真家だった。感動のあまり涙が出そうになった。そんな写真に偶然出会えたことがうれしかった。

表参道交差点で見た空とスターバックスの窓越しに見た空 (IXY 200で撮影）。ちょっと風が強くて寒かったけどいい天気だった。

If I was asked to list up what you should do and buy in San Francisco, I’d include Ghirardelli chocolate in the list. When I went there a month ago, of course, I bought the dark chocolate bars (70% cocoa). (Love dark chocolates.) I’ve enjoyed it and only two sections of the last bar are left now!

When I bought them, I didn’t realize one of them was a baking bar. But when I tried to eat it, I noticed "baking bar" sign on the wrapper and there was a recipe of "Ghirardelli Soft Center Chocolate Cake" on the back. Today, a rainy cold Saturday, I baked the soft center chocolate cake. It was quite easy! It took only thirty minutes to bake it and the cake is now on the table : )

サンフランシスコの観光地や買い物のリストを作れと言われたら　ジラデリのチョコレートは欠かせないと思う。1ヶ月前にサンフランに行ったときにも　もちろんダーク(カカオ７０%)の板チョコをいくつか購入。（ダークチョコレートは私の大好物。）ほんとおいしいチョコレートも最後の1枚、それも最後の2セクションを残すのみとなった。

チョコを買ったときには気づかなかったのだけれど1枚ベーキング用のチョコが混ざっていた。包み紙にはレシピもついていた。今日は雨が降って寒くて出かけるにはイマイチ（といっても少し出かけて用事を済ませたが）。ジラデリソフトセンターチョコレートケーキを作ってみることにした。作り方はとても簡単（さすがアメリカ流）、30分で出来上がった。今テーブルの上で冷ましているところ。

I stayed at  Ikaho hot-spring resort in Gumma prefecture with colleagues last night. Unfortunately, I was quite ill yesterday and couldn’t enjoy the hot spring and the nature. This morning, however, I felt much better and relaxed in a hot spring. I always feel it’s nicer to bathe in a hot spring in the morning, especially when there is an open-air bath. Weather was great and the surrounding mountains were beautiful. And PowerShot (my lovely digital compact camera)worked as usual!

Back in Tokyo today, full moon is beautiful. As I did last full moon day in San Francisco, I took some pictures of the beautiful moon, this time by the brand-new digital SLR. It took some time to fix a tripod. For me, it’s always challenging to fix it!

昨日は会社の旅行で群馬の伊香保温泉に１泊。昨日はなぜかとても具合が悪くて温泉や自然を楽しむ余裕も なくひたすら寝ていた。今朝になってなんとか回復、朝風呂を楽しむ。いつも思うのだけれど温泉は夜より朝の方が気持ちいい。とりわけ露天風呂は最高。天気もよくて周りの山もきれいだった。持って行ったパワーショット（今までずっと使ってたコンパクトデジタルカメラ）で　少し写真を撮ることもできた。

東京に戻って来る時間にはきれいな満月が…。前回の満月のときには　サンフランシスコで写真を撮っていたのを思い出す。今回は東京で新しい一眼レフを使って撮影。三脚のセットはいつもながらほんと難しかった。
