Advent Tea

Soon, Christmas is coming. A lot of events and advertisements are in the town and on the TV. But I feel less "Christmasy" in Helsinki where everyone celebrates Christmas or at least have Christmas holiday and get together with family than Tokyo where Christmas is not a tradition. I wondered why… Maybe it's because there are much less lights and decoration in the town than Tokyo. And the town is much quieter than Tokyo. Tokyo is always busy but I reckon December is the busiest. Not only Christmas advertisements make people to buy something fancy but also people prepare to welcome a new year. I like the busy Tokyo and miss it a lot. But I also like to be a quiet place such as Finland… maybe not in too quiet place honestly ;-) but Helsinki and Espoo are quite comfortable.

Well, I didn't mean to write about difference between Christmas time in Tokyo and Helsinki today. But I wanted to write about my petite Christmas ritual. Last months, I spent two weeks in Tokyo. When a friend and I were shopping & window shopping, we found the lovely box of tea, "TEE ADVENT KALENDER". And the friend bought it to me as present. The box has 24 tea bags, all different herb tea and tea! And I just drank the 15th tea, fortune herbal tea : ) Healthier choice than advent calender chocolate ;-) and it warms up my heart.   

もうすぐクリスマス。クリスマスのイベントが次から次へと行われ、テレビでもクリスマス番組やらコマーシャルやら。そして私はクリスマスを祝うのが伝統の国、フィンランドにいる。まあクリスマスを祝っている人がどれくらいいるのかは不明だが少なくともクリスマスの祝日はみんなが休み、家族で集まり、食べたり飲んだりするのが伝統である。が、私的には、実はクリスマスが伝統でもなんでもない東京にいるときよりもクリスマス気分にならない。なんでだろうと思って考えてみたのだが、たぶんライトアップやクリスマスツリーなどの飾り付けが東京より断然地味なせいなんじゃないかと思ったりした。そしてもちろん12月だというのにとても静かな街（東京に慣れている私にとってにすぎないのかもしれないが・・・いや　ほかのヨーロッパの都市に比べても断然静かで地味だ）。華やかなデコレーションがきらめく東京がとても懐かしいというのが正直なところだが、実はこんな静かな場所にいるのも悪くない。といってもヘルシンキ・エスポー辺りが限界か・・・もっと静かなところともなると自信がなくなる（笑

と、クリスマスの街比べのようなことを書いてみたが、今日書きたかったのは私が毎日しているクリスマスらしいこと。11月に東京に戻ったときに友達が買ってくれたアドベント・ティー。全部違う種類のハーブティーとティーが24種類。12月1日から毎日１つずつ飲んでいる。今日15日目のお茶はフォーチュン・ティー。アドベント･カレンダーチョコレートよりもヘルシーだし、心温まるアドベントカレンダーである。
