I can’t start a day without a cup of coffee. And it has to be rich and strong. In Finland. the most common coffee is not strong and, in my opinion, it’s not rich. But at home, at most cafes or restaurants, the weaker one is standard coffee. You would really have to know where to buy coffee beans and where to find a good cup of coffee if you were like me 😉

In Helsinki, I’ve found two good places for coffee, Cafe Delicato and Kaffe Centralen. Cafe Delicato(Kalevankatu 34) is an Italian cafe where you can have genuine Italian sandwiches and Italian coffee. And interior decoration reminds me of petite hotel’s breakfast room inItaly and France. Kaffe Centralen is coffee shop which sells many different good coffee beans and coffee equipment. I’m still wondering if I should get an espresso machine I found there…;-) Well, probably not. When it comes to cappuccino (I don’t drink espresso), I like to be served at the cafe. Anyways, at the Kaffe Centralen, not only you can checkout the beans and equipment, you can drink good coffee, a big cup of hot chocolate and many different kind of tea. The coffee is quite strong. I wish I live near there so that I would be able to drink their cappuccino every morning.

Coffee matters and I’m glad that I have now two favorite cafes.Of course, I admit I’m the addict.

コーヒーがないと１日が始まらない。というか　朝コーヒーを飲んでから出ないと動き出せない。そんなコーヒー好きな私が好きな濃くてリッチな感じのコーヒーはフィンランドではあまり一般的ではない。コーヒーの消費量はとても多い国なのだが家庭や店で飲まれているコーヒーはどちらかという薄くて（アメリカンとはまた違った意味で）コクがないのが普通だ。好みのコーヒーを手に入れるためにはそれなりのリサーチが必要だったりする。（東京とはまったく違った状態。谷中コーヒーみたいなのが会社の近くにあったりするわけではないのだ。）
リサーチの甲斐あってこれまでに２軒のお気に入りを発見。Kaffe Centralen と Cafe Delicato　だ。Cafe Delicato　はとてもイタリアなカフェで本場のイタリアンサンドイッチが食べられるしイタリアンカフェが楽しめる。店のインテリアもとても素敵でイタリアやフランスのプチホテルのブレックファストルームのような感じだ。Kaffe Centralen　はいろんな種類のコーヒー豆とコーヒー器具を販売している。この前手ごろなエスプレッソマシーンを見かけて買いたい衝動に駆られたが　やはりカプチーノは店で飲むのがいいな～と思ってやめておいた。お店でもいくつかテーブルといすが置いてあってコーヒーやかなり大きいカップで出てくるホットチョコレートや紅茶が飲める。
一時はおいしいコーヒーがな～い！と悲しい気分になっていた私。でももう大丈夫 🙂
写真は上からKaffe Centralenのカプチーノ。Cafe Delicatoのカプチーノ。そして最後のカプチーノは１２月に訪れたミュンヘンのKaffe, Espresso Baristaで。この店は現地の英語情報誌で発見。どうしても行きたくなって道に迷いながらも行けてよかったカフェ。

Although it feels like Christmas holiday was long time ago, it was only two weeks ago. On the 26th of December, a friend of mine invited me to her place and we enjoyed traditional Finnish Christmas food. Her boyfriend is a chef and he cooked most of them. Kiitos!

By the way, "kinkku", ham is the most important for Finnish Christmas. I had been wondering why people get excited about ham which doesn't sound special at all but Christmas ham was different from ordinary ham. You need to experiencece it to see how speciall it is!

            

 

クリスマスはなんだかずっと前の出来事のような気がするけれど実はクリスマス休暇からまだ２週間しか経っていない。フィンランドでのクリスマスはどんなだったかというと・・・２６日にフィンランド人の友達が家に招待してくれて伝統的なクリスマスの料理をごちそうしてくれた。友達のボーイフレンドがシェフで料理のほとんどは彼が担当。とてもおいしかった。ありがとう！

ところでフィンランドのクリスマスといえば"kinkku"、ハムが欠かせない。今回ごちそうになったハムを味合うまでは何でたかだかハムでそんな大騒ぎ？と思っていたけれど、このクリスマスハムを食べてみて納得。普通のハムとは全然違った。この違いのを知るには食べてみるのが一番。

We saw the beautiful sun in the morning and had quit a bit of snow in the evening today. Can you believer these pictures were taken on the same day? It has been cold in Helsinki but it seems to become a bit warmer tomorrow. The weather forecast says it's going to be +1 degree. It was -12 degrees when I wen to the post office this morning as a reference 😉 (photo by IXY800IS: I'm not good at taking pictures by this camera…)

今日はきれいな朝日を写真に納めた。と思ったら夕方には結構な雪。どちらの写真も今日撮ったものというのが信じがたい。ヘルシンキはずっと寒かったけれど明日からちょっと暖かくなりそう。天気予報によると明日は+１℃まで気温が上がるようで。ちなみに今朝郵便局まで歩いて行ったときの気温は-１２℃くらいだった;-)（写真はIXY800ISで撮ったもの。どうもこのカメラと相性が良くないみたい・・・キヤノンの方・・・w）
