Snowing, snowing, snowing! We had snow storm today. Maybe you can't really see how stormy it was in this picture which I took by my N9 through the office window. But it was snowing A LOT as much as I couldn't help laughing at the situation.
The Finnish flags were raised to celebrate the anniversary of the publication of the Kalevala day.Kalevala is a collection of epic folk poetry, collected by Finnish folklorist Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) and first published by The Finnish Literature Society in 1835. And Kalevara day is one of the many flag days in Finland. Most of them are not bank holidays, BTW.
さて今日は大雪。ほんとに大雪。というか吹雪。オフィスの窓越しにスマホで撮ったこの写真ではわかりづらいかもしれないけど、ほんと大雪でした。なんだかあまりの状況におかしくなって笑うしかないというくらい、大雪でした（笑
そんな今日はカレワラの出版記念日。カレワラというのは民族学者 Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884)が集めたフィンランド民話の抒情詩集（抒情詩の民話集？日本語としてどっちが正しいのだろうか・・・）で、1835年が初版。カレワラの日は国旗を掲揚する記念日、flag day, の１つにあたります。フィンランドにはこのflag dayが頻繁にあるのですが、国民の祝日でないところがとても残念・・・いわゆる平日の祝日休みが日本に比べると極端に少ないのです。振り替え休日もないし・・・
ところでこのポストをあっぷしてから気がついたので追記: 国旗を掲げる日は 旗日ですね～。flag day, 日本語でなんっていうんだろうって思いながら書いていたのですが・・・ぴったりな言葉がありました。でも名前は旗日でもお休みではありません・・・しつこいようですが・・・
