Unexpected Location for Fab. Lunch – Ravintola Lähiö

I had no idea about the location when I saw the address. It meant it wasn’t in the city centre of Helsinki. But but but, somewhat the article in the online news made me think I must go there despite the article was in Finnish which I don’t understand as much as English.

友達が送ってきたフィンランド語のオンラインニュース。ヘルシンキのどこかにオープンする新しいグルメレストランの情報。フィンランド語だったので、あいまいな理解ではあるが、行ってみなくてはという気分になったのは、やはり私、グルメの直感！

Though it’s reached easily by metro from Helsinki city centre, we had a car on the day and drove to Rastila camping site. Yes, it’s located in the camping site, unexpected location for gourmet restaurant. There were many camping cars at the site.

というわけで、先週、足を運んだこの建物。それは、ヘルシンキの東の端にあるキャンプ場に隣接した場所。こんなところにグルメレストランがあるのか・・・というロケーションなのだが・・・。以前他の場所（こちらもまた街の中心ではなく島）にあった、おいしいレストランを経営していた人たちとそのシェフが開いたレストランという追加情報をもらったので、期待は高く・・・。

For lunch, our choice was grilled salmon. We knew what to order when we saw the day’s lunch menu online before coming here 🙂 And it was the right choice! I think other dishes are equally good though. Well, we like salmon 🙂

行く前からウェブサイトでメニューを見て、決めていたサーモンをオーダー。フィンランドで食べるサーモンはとてもおいしいし、迷いなくサーモンという感じだったのだ。そのチョイスはもちろん正解。まさにグルメなランチ体験になったのだ。

More than salmon, however, I was super impressed by the potatoes under the salmon (Hope you can see them!). I am not a big fan of potatoes. I usually skip to eat it. Often, I even ask the chef not to put any potatoes on the plate. But I, of course, tasted it at this gourmet restaurant.

サーモンはもちろんなこと、このランチで一番感動したのは、サーモンの下にあったポテト。実はポテトはあまり好きじゃなくて、いつも残すか、お店の人にポテトは載せないでください、と頼むほどなのだが、グルメレストランでは、試してみる・・・。これがまた、美味！途中でお腹がいっぱいになったのだが、おいし過ぎて残せず・・・この日はディナーをパス（笑。

The potatoes were so delicious that I couldn’t leave any bit on the plate. I was really full but couldn’t stop! It was one of the best potatoes I had ever eaten. (I’ve never imagined I would write about potatoes with this much passion 😉 )

こんなおいしいレストラン、Ravintola Lähiö http://www.lahio.fi/。キャンプ場まで足を伸ばす価値はある。キャンプ場と聞くとなんだか行くのが大変そうなのだが、地下鉄の駅のすぐ近くでもあるので、アクセスも簡単。かつ、このメインディッシュにサラダビュッフェと食後の飲み物がついて10€というのは、オトク感も高いではないか・・・。

Including salad buffet and coffee/tea, the lunch was only 10 €. Super value!

Feel at Home at French Cafe, Chofé

Last week, a friend of mine asked me if I had been to the cafe Chofé in my neighborhood. I hadn’t been there and so decided to check it out soon.

先週友達が気になると言っていた近所の新しいフレンチ・カフェChofé。そんな話を聞くと、絶対行ってみなくては、という気分が盛り上がり、本日さっそく足を運ぶ。

So, I went there this evening. On the way, I was destructed by the shop which sells my favorite tea, Whittard of Chelsea (the very first time to see Whittard in Finland, yay!) and realized that the cafe I was supposed go to meet friends was just next door.

家からカフェに向かう途中、私の大好きなイギリスの紅茶Whittard を専門に扱う店を発見して（フィンランドで初だと思う！）、気を取られていたのだが、実はChofé はその隣の店だった。

Chofé had nice coffee, French I guess, and lovely sweets. I noticed some cakes were baked by a pâtissier who I know. I asked the guy at the counter where the other sweets were from and got to know they were from Sven’s bakery which is also in my neighborhood. (I LOVE MY NEIGHBORHOOD, PUNAVUORI!)

I liked what I had, a cup of cappuccino and chocolate & almond tartelette 🙂 The chocolate was so so so yummy. After eating a piece, I was tempted to have one more though I managed to resist 😉

In addition to the coffee and the sweets, I really liked the atmosphere of the cafe. It was so relaxing. Friends and I felt at home and talked a lot trying out different sofas and chairs in the cafe. Among the chairs I tried, I loved the rocking chair which was made in Eastern Finland. Several days ago, I was thinking about my grand-ma’s rocking chair which I liked and wish had it at home now.

カフェではカプチーノとチョコレートとアーモンドのタルトを注文。どちらも美味。特にタルトのチョコレートがなんとも私好みで、食べ終わった後、もう１つ、と思ったくらいである。（が、さすがに2個はどうかと思って、思いとどまった次第（笑。）おいしいコーヒーとスイーツに加え、このお店、雰囲気がとてもいい。なんだか家にいるみたいな気分でリラックスできるのだ。そして、長時間いても大丈夫な雰囲気。書き仕事をするのによい感じである。

In the Facebook, I posted that I was at the cafe and a friend who lives in Austria and happened to be in Helsinki noticed it. And he came to see me! It was such a nice surprise : ) I enjoyed the evening at the lovely French cafe 🙂

そんなわけで、すっかりリラックスして、お店で販売しているデザイングッズを見たり、席を変えて違う椅子やソファに座ってみたり、東フィンランドで製造されていると教えてもらったロッキングチェアに座ってみたりしながら、友達とゴシップに花を咲かせていると・・・　オーストリア在住で、たまたまヘルシンキに出張中の友達にバッタリ。Facebookで私がここにいるのを知って、たまたま近くを通りかかったので会いに来てくれたのだ。なんともうれしいサプライズ！とても楽しいカフェでの時間だった。

ちなみに、何日か前、ふと祖母が持っていて私も子供のころよく座っていたロッキングチェアのことを思い出して、今の家にあったらいいのに・・・と思っていたので、カフェでロッキングチェアをを見たときは思わずとてもうれしくなった・・・。そのうち購入してもいいかもね。
