Yesterday I visited Otaniemi, Espoo.

昨日はヘルシンキの隣の市、エスポーにあるオタニエミへ。

Though it wasn’t the main agenda for my visit, I had a chance to see another Alvar Aalto architecture.  Last week I got to know that the companies that were in charge of renovation project  of this building,  Aalto University campus library, won the Finland’s most important architecture prize, Finlandia prize for architecture this year. As I had been checking out Aalto architecture with a bit more insight, it was very interesting to see another famous building designed by Alvar Aalto.

アルヴァ・アアルトの建築を見に行ったわけではないけれど、ついでなので、またまたアアルト建築も見学。オタニエミといえばアアルト大学（元ヘルシンキ工科大学）。この大学の図書館の改築工事を手がけた２社がフィンランドの建築における最高峰の賞、フィンランディア・プライズ（賞）を今年受賞したという記事を読んだばかりなので見てみたいな～と思っていたところ、絶好のタイミング。しかも昨日も書いたとおり、建築家の友達からアアルト建築についてちょっと教えてもらったばかりで今まで見てきた建物と比べるのもとても興味深いのだ。

It was one of the best libraries I have visited and I thought students of Aalto university was lucky! If this library was closer to where I live, I would definitely bring my laptop and work there.

とても素敵な図書館で、アアルト大学の学生がうらやましくなった。家の近くにあったら間違いなく仕事場として使うのに・・・。
